December 10, 2014: Summer Fit Activities and Active Planet Kids Publishing Announcement

Members of the publishing team that created the original, best-selling Summer Bridge Activities series are proud to announce the formation of ACTIVE PLANET KIDS, a publishing initiative that focuses on healthy lifestyle as an important part of education.

Active Planet Kids is a supplemental educational resource and storybook publishing company that incorporates fitness and core values in its products to help parents and children build healthy lifestyle habits as part of their educational experience. We believe physical fitness plays an important role in academics, and that both academic skills and physical fitness should be built on a foundation of core values.

December 30, 2014: Summer Fit Activities receives the Creative Child 2014 Product of the Year Award

Creative Child Magazine's Awards Program is unique in that all products submitted are reviewed by moms, music educators and early education professionals. Products are reviewed by many people - the very people who would purchase them.

June 12, 2015: Active Planet Kids partners with Tour of Utah 2015 (TOU) and University of Utah Healthcare to create the Mike and The Bike Sprint to the Finish educational program

Using characters from its best-selling storybook series written by Grammy-Award winning musician Michael Ward, APK worked closely with the Tour of Utah and University of Utah Healthcare to create a Mike and The Bike educational booklet to distribute to elementary students throughout the state of Utah to promote bike safety and healthy lifestyles. Children ages 3 - 13 years old are encouraged to participate in the Sprint to the Finish bike races held each day on the course of the professional bike race which is known for its massive climbs and spectacular views.

September 19 -27, 2015: Active Planet Kids partners with Richmond 2015 UCI Road World Championship and Virginia Highway Safety Office to create the Mike and The Bike Ride Like a Champion Bike Safety Program. 

Using characters from its best-selling storybook series written by Grammy-Award winning musican Michael Ward, APK worked closely with Richmond 2015, the Virgina Highway Safety Office (VDMV) and the Virginia Board of Education (VDOE) to create an online bike safety, health education and nutrition program for elementary schools throughout the state. In addition, print booklets were distributed during the 9 day international event where APK worked with Car Maxx to promote healthy lifestyles to parents and children who attended the event from around the world.

April 2016: Active Planet Kids releases the third edition of the award-winning Summer Fit Activities workbook series. Updated content includes new health and nutrition index, new core value activities, new goal setting incentive program and flashcards.

May 2016: Active Planet Kids announces its Slap the Gap - Summer Learning for All Kids! community outreach program to help combat the Summer Gap. According to stats from the National Summer Learning Association, low-income students lose 2-3 months of reading during the summer while kids who have access to summer learning materials (like Summer Fit) and summer camps are found to make small gains. For every copy of Summer Fit Activities that is purchased on its website, Active Planet Kids makes a 1 for 1 donation to a program that serves families and children in need. 

June 2016: Active Planet Kids partners with the Venture Out! Festival Series in Salt Lake City, Utah to promote fitness and healthy eating. Each week APK travels with the festival throughout the communities of Canyon Rim, East Millcreek, Millcreek, and Mt Olympus. APK hosts a blender bike with a weekly themed smoothie, distributes activity sheets with a healthy smoothie recipe, themed exercise, parent power tip and suggested book of the week.

July 14, 2016: Active Planet Kids (APK) announces that it will use books from the Slap the Gap program which earns 1 copy of Summer Fit Activities to give to a child in need for every 1 book that is purchased on the Active Planet Kids website to The Road Home.

The Road Home provides shelter to anybody in need including families with young children. Summer Fit Activities is a great resource for parents and children because it provides structure and academic guidance for children that is flexible and can be used at home and on the go. APK is committed to building programs and providing resources that support families in transition that build academic and non-cognitive skills in children who are at risk.
